Florin Mitroi was a fascinating Romanian painter, whose expressive works have become increasingly influential in the past few years both in Romania and abroad. During his life, Mitroi was a lecturer at the Bucharest National University of Arts and participated in group exhibitions in France, USA, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Italy, Germany.
Regarding his portraits, Tim Ackermann stated that "with their bald heads and shadowy eyes, Mitroi’s figures seem to be related to Picasso’s masks. Mitroi only needs a few brush strokes to imbue these faces with enormous expressivity – thus reflecting one of the darkest vaults of the soul", whilst Romanian art historian Pavel Șușară stated that the form depicted in the artist's oeuvre is "reality itself, a reality that is devoid of history".
