Signed and numbered on the back, Ion Grigorescu, 20
In communist Romania, state-managed electoral meetings were the order of the day. Overseen by the feared secret police, citizens had to testify to their adherence to the regime. Ion Grigorescu secretly photographed one of these meetings, organized on March 6, 1975. The results are especially revealing for the mechanism behind these demonstrations.
Through his exquisite body of work, Ion Grigorescu is now considered one of the most important Romanian artists. From painting to photography, from performances to installations, Ion Grigorescu is ever fresh in his creation, discovering new ways to create without singing the same song.
