Lot Notes

Through his exquisite body of work, Ion Grigorescu is now considered one of the most important Romanian artists. From painting to photography, from performance to installation, Ion Grigorescu is ever fresh in his creation, discovering new ways to create without singing the same song.

During the '70s, he created a series of photographs and paintings representing his wife from that time, Măriuca Iosifescu. Part of them exhibited at Berlin, other shown at Frieze Art Fair 2010, Frame section, they are a symbol and a tribute to the eternal feminism and natural beauty.

Along with Iosif Kiraly, Mihai Oroveanu, Gheorghe Rasovszky, through his photographs Ion Grigorescu sets up a new trend into Romanian Contemporary Photography, an artistic ego and post-communist dilemma.
