Lot Notes

Vasile Dobrian was an avant-garde painter, illustrator and poet. In his paintings, the initial creative impulse seems to be generated by the abstract shapes formed by the letters of the Latin alphabet. His highly simplified compositions are dynamic, contrasting and with a touch of the monumental. His works have been exhibited internationally alongside artists such as Horia Damian and Ion Țuculescu. He participated twice in the Venice Biennale (1960 and 1962).
