Signed bottom right, in print, Marc Chagall
This lot is a poster for a 1976 Marc Chagall exhibition that took place at the Pace/Columbus gallery. One of the earliest modernists, Chagall was renowned for mastering a variety of artistic mediums, including stained glass, tapestry, and ceramics. He is well known for his affinity for vivid and joyful colours and the extensive religious themes portrayed in his work, as well as his dreamlike and thought-provoking compositions. Pace/Columbus was an outpost of the famous Pace gallery collective that opened in 1965 and closed in 1982.
The gallery held a series of exhibitions that featured prominent contemporary artists, such as Frank Stella, Jean Dubuffet and Andy Warhol and was instrumental in the popularization of modern and contemporary art in Ohio and the American Midwest.
