Additional info:
Ştefan Râmniceanu was one of the members of the generation that radically transformed Romanian experimental art in the 1980s. The twenty-six years of living in Paris, where he was deeply appreciated and where he made a name for himself, have a word to say nowadays. His works are present in important private collections. His exile gave him the right to create and to be free. He returned triumphant, amazing the Romanian art lovers' world. "Ștefan Râmniceanu reinvents the imagery of the Orthodox church through contemporary, abstracted 'icons'. As a Romanian under the oppression of the Ceaușescu regime he, like some other artists, turned to paintings of churches as a form of carefully coded dissent, but his work goes beyond the expedient." - Malcolm Miles, professor of Cultural Studies, University of Plymouth
