Most of those who visited the Lavacow booth at Art Safari were amazed by the intense, yet delicately juxtaposed colours of Țuculescu ‘s Childhood (Landscape in Ștefănești).
The oil painting dates from 1956 and is quintessential of Țuculescu’s folkloric period. The work was previously part of a private collection in Italy and came with a letter in which Maria Țuculescu, the artist's wife, confirms the sale of the work.
Both the beauty and the importance of the work were affirmed during the Lavacow Anniversary Auction, when the painting, initially estimated at €35.000 - €45.000, was auctioned for €60.000.
Works by international stars such as Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró and Man Ray, alongside lots by outstanding Romanian artists including Paul Neagu, Dumitru Gorzo, Eugène Ionesco, Harry Guttman and Ion Alin Gheorghiu were also successfully sold at our two year anniversary auction.
